Quiz Night Trivia Fundraiser
The Friends of Sammy-Joe Foundation recently held a trivia night charity event, which challenged participants as well as helped the community.
“The event was for The Friends of Sammy-Joe Foundation, which is a charitable trust that helps raise money for children and young adults living in Australia who have Trichothiodystrophy (TTD), Xeroderma pigmentosum, and Cockayne Syndrome —all life threatening and degenerative illnesses that cause disability and sometimes death to those who suffer from it,” said Maria Liistro, the founder of the Trichothiodystrophy, Xeroderma pigmentosum and Cockayne Syndrome Trust Fund.
Liistro said the event was created “to raise money for the children of the charity, who all suffer from this illness [and] to help create a better life for the families and children of our charity.” Liistro’s son, Sammy-Joe, was born with TTD, a disease so rare that she has “only been able to find 36 other children in Australia” who share the diagnosis, and 196 world-wide.
According to Liistro, the event was the result of a lot of teamwork from volunteers. “It was a long hard three months of preparation, but was all worth[it]. [T]o see the faces of the families and children [who] the charity helps makes it all worthwhile.” On her website, she dedicated 4 entire pages to thanking those who helped out! What also contributed to the event were Eventgroove’s raffle tickets, which the organization used for their event.
Liistro said the event was a success. “The whole event was memorable,” she said. “[W]e worked hard at truly setting up a great evening. [E]veryone dancing and getting involved were the highlights of the evening and when we drew the raffle, [seeing] the winner’s face was amazing.”
