Alt-Rock Band Takes Beachcomber Hotel by Storm
The Beachcomber Hotel in Toukley, New South Wales, was rocking the 8th of December with performances by Room-13 and their special guests.
According to the official description, Room-13, is a “highly-energetic alternative rock band from the Central Coast (North of Sydney, Australia). Formed in 2010 with over 200 shows under their belt, R13 have the drive to be something huge. Being a live band, they constantly strive to perfect their live show.”
The band, called by the Express Advocate newspaper as “A solid unit with outstanding material,” finally came together in 2010 after a long search to find talented musicians that gelled together. In the end, the official line-up consists of singer Trent Fisher, drummer Nathan Downey, guitarist Angus Mitchell, and bassist Scott Pattison. Room-13 describes their sound as “[m]elodic bass riffs, dynamite beats, shredding guitar and a powerful vocal” combined to create a spectacular stage show. The band has played over 200 shows, and are showing no signs of stopping.
Room-13 has been working to pave their way in the Australian music scene and have performed with the Central Coast’s most popular bands as well as with the US band As Tall As Lions. December 8 was another notch in the belt toward musical domination. “We put five bands on (including ourselves) in hope to gain a wider fan base for all local bands included,” said Downey. “The bands that also played were Pitchfork, The Rubix, Headbutt, and The Meantime.”
Room-13 did a lot to promote their event. “[We used] a lot of different websites [like] Facebook, Wot’s Hot Central Coast Gig Guide, Whats on Central Coast, and we got posters printed and put them up everywhere locally,” Downey said. The bands also sold pre-sale tickets along with door sales, which, according to Downey, “worked very well.” Downey also added that aside from having professional-looking tickets, “the pre-sales made it heaps easier to get [the event] together.”
Downey said the event went great. “Everything went to plan, all goals were met,” he said. “[It] was a good night for everyone involved, lot of great feedback. The only thing was we ran half an hour late[.] [A]ll good!”
