Prince of Wales Hospital Celebrates Christmas in October with Black Tie Event
The staff of The Prince of Wales Hospital’s operating theatres decided to celebrate Christmas a little early this year. The staff held an early Christmas Celebration, “Spring Into Christmas” Theatre Ball 13 October at the Oceanic Ballroom in Crowne Plaza at Coogee Beach. The black tie event was an elegant way to jumpstart the Christmas season.
If you want a little background on The Prince of Wales Hospital, the hospital, according to the official website, is a major teaching hospital based in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The hospital, which serves the whole of New South Wales, provides a range of surgical and medical services and is also affiliated with the University of New South Wales (UNSW), one of Australia’s most diverse and largest medical faculties, according to the university’s website. The partnership the university has with The Prince of Wales Hospital allows the hospital to keep their commitments to medical research and clinical teaching while providing the area with excellent medical care.
According to the hospital’s website, the hospital has 440 beds and averages around a 90 percent occupancy rating. Even more, the hospital and its 3,000-member staff help more than 30,000 acute patients a year and about 40,000 patients in their Emergency Department. Around 900,000 non-admitted patients are treated through their outpatients, community health and rural outreach services.
Leonie Robertson of The Prince of Wales Hospital said the fate of theatre ball seemed to be touch-and-go for a moment. “At first [we] did not have the numbers and nearly had to postpone until closer [to] Christmas,” she said. But, the initial strategy of using posters, word of mouth and providing ward nurses with tickets to sell seemed to work.
“Eventgroove was fabulous,” said Robertson, although she did admit that perhaps a poster of a larger size would have probably been handier than the size she initially thought would suit the event best. Overall, it would seem tons of fun was had at the “Spring Into Christmas” Theatre Ball.
