Trivia Night Raises Funds to Support Melbourne Ride to Conquer Cancer Biking Event
Melbourne’s branch of The Ride to Conquer Cancer organisation had a great night of fun on the 28th of June. The organisation’s “The Ride to Conquer Cancer Trivia Night” was not just a night of entertainment, but it was also a time to raise funds for a good cause.
Gail Sayers from the organisation talked more about the trivia night. “This event was to raise money for the ride to conquer caner benefiting Peter [MacCallum] Cancer Centre,” said Sayers. The ride, according to the official website, the ride will take place the 26-27 of October. The cyclists will ride from Melbourne through the Mornington Peninsula. During the two day ride, cyclists will be able to see lovely vineyards, coastal communities, and nature preserves. The centre being benefitted, The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, is the only public hospital in Australia solely dedicated to cancer. The money raised from the ride will help fund Peter Mac’s technology facilities and scientific findings. Some of the ground breaking technologies include trial drugs, experimentation, and more.
Sayers outlined how the event was promoted. “We put flyers in nearly every shop window and did an interview with the local paper[.]”
The trivia fundraiser was a huge success, states Sayers. “We raise $3,288,” she said. “Everyone had a great time.” The best part of the event, according to Sayers, was a button count. “We had a button count with over 3000 buttons in the jar,” she said. “The girl who won it was gobsmacked when not only did she receive a $50 voucher [but] she got the jar of buttons too.”
If you’re planning on creating an event to benefit a good cause similar to the trivia night, Sayers suggests to plan ahead and be prepared for anything. “Plan early, always have a backup plan, and remember what can go wrong probably will,” she said.
